Presidential Pay Hikes

Last Friday, Pennsylvania State University’s governing board renewed President Graham B. Spanier’s contract for another five years and awarded him an 8-percent raise, the Harrisburg Patriot-News reports. That brings his annual salary up to $590,000 — more than double the $250,000 paid to him when he took the top job at PSU 12 years ago. According to The Chronicle’s executive-compensation survey, Spanier last year had the third-highest base salary of public-university presidents. Read more.

Meanwhile, the Oregon State Board of Higher Education decided last Friday to increase the salaries of four university presidents and the system chancellor, The Oregonian reports. Read more.
