Posting a Keep-Off-the-Campus List
After the Virginia Tech shootings, officials of other colleges understandably want to do everything they can to keep dangerous people off their campuses. But a new Web site created by the University of Northern Colorado's police department goes too far, some critics say.
The Web site lists -- and, when possible, includes photographs of -- former students and employees who have been labeled personae non gratae by campus officials. Some of those people have been accused of serious crimes -- for example, Mitchell Cozad, a one-time punter on the football team who has been charged with attempted murder.
But others, like Brittany Bethel, a young woman with anorexia who says she was banned from campus for her own protection, are upset about appearing on the Web site, the Rocky Mountain News reports. The site does acknowledge that the individuals named "aren't necessarily dangerous." For Ms. Bethel, though that may be small consolation. --Brock Read
