Online, en Español

The upper Midwest is not known for its Spanish-speaking population, but officials at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor have designed a Spanish-language Web site for the institution nevertheless.

The site, Portal en Español, made its debut in 2004, but it has started to take off in the past year: Over the last 12 months, visits have risen by 59 percent. Inspired by the success of the Web page, the university has started publishing Spanish-language versions of its press releases and campus news reports.
