New Campus Buildings for Business, Reflection, Living, and Learning

Southern Vermont College has opened a 41,000-square-foot, $7.5-million building that mixes living space for 110 students with a science lab, a computer lab, offices, a wellness center, and a glassy atrium. The building—the college's first new structure in 17 years—also includes a simulation lab in which nursing students can practice procedures on interactive patient simulators. Called Hunter Hall, the building was designed by Centerline Architects.

Bryant University has dedicated a 10,000-square-foot Interfaith Center designed by Gwathmey Siegel Associates. The building, constructed for $10-million, has a circular, 200-seat main hall with retractable walls, as well as a smaller sanctuary—also circular—and an outdoor reflecting pool. As its name suggests, it is intended to serve students of all faiths as well those simply seeking a place to reflect.

Miami University, in Ohio, has opened a new Georgian-style home for its Farmer School of Business. The 210,000-square-foot, $65-million building was designed by the New York firm Robert A.M. Stern Architects along with Moody Nolan, of Columbus, Ohio. It brings together six academic departments and four centers in a facility with classrooms, offices, two auditoriums, a library, and an 1,800-square-foot trading center in which students can simulate transactions. The building is designed to earn LEED certification.
