New Building at Williams Offers Indoor Play and Toilets for Tots
The newest building at Williams College isn’t for college students at all — it’s a 9,300-square-foot, $6.1-million child-care center with seven classrooms, an indoor play area, and child-size bathrooms. It was designed by D.W. Arthur Associates Architects. The child-care center, which offers day care as well as after-school and summer programs, is operated jointly by the college and Child Care of Northern Berkshires Inc., according to a Williams news release.
But the college does have some projects in the works for older students. As part of a $128-million project, one new academic building is already under construction and another will be started next year. A new library is also being planned to replace the college’s 1975 Sawyer Library (left), designed by the prominent Chicago architecture firm Harry Weese Associates. Design for the multiyear project is being handled by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson.
