N.J. Bill Would Provide Paid Leave for Family Care

New Jersey’s State Senate passed a bill Monday that would give workers the right to take paid leave to look after a newborn or a sick relative, The New York Times reports. If the State Assembly approves the bill, as it’s expected to later this month, New Jersey will join California and Washington as the only states to provide such paid benefits (the federal Family and Medical Leave Act already gives workers the right to unpaid leave for the same reasons). Harvard University has selected Evelynn Hammonds, senior vice provost for faculty development and diversity, as the first female and African-American dean of Harvard College, The Boston Globe reports. University of California system officials worry that it could be tough to find a successor for President Robert C. Dynes, who plans to step down by June, the Los Angeles Times reports.
