Mmmm, Fresh History of American Reconstruction
E-books have yet to become popular among students. But one company thinks it has the answer — smelly e-books!
An e-textbook provider called CaféScribe plans to give out scratch-and-sniff stickers with its electronic books. When scratched, the sticker will emit the alluring aroma of, well, old textbooks.
In case you’re wondering what officials at CaféScribe have been sniffing, they issued a press release saying a poll conducted with Zogby International found that out of 591 students surveyed, 43 percent of them identified smell “as the thing they most love about books as physical objects.”
Bryce Johnson, CaféScribe chief executive officer, doesn’t stop there: “By placing these stickers on their computers they can give their e-books the same musty book smell they know and love from used textbooks — without any of the residual DNA you sometimes find stuck to the pages of used textbooks.” —Dan Carnevale
