Key Congressman Reiterates Warning to Colleges on Direct Loans
With legislation to overhaul the health-care system bogging down the U.S. Senate and delaying consideration of a student-loan-reform bill, the chairman of the House education committee, Rep. George Miller of California, wrote today to college presidents reiterating the Obama administration's warning that colleges should prepare now to join the direct-loan program, rather than wait for Congress to finish passing the student-loan bill, if they want to be sure of having loan money for their students in the 2010-11 academic year.
