Indiana U. Is Host for Online Collection of Sheet Music

Four Indiana institutions this week started a Web site that offers more than 10,000 pieces of sheet music, some of them free. Most of the works are related to Indiana, either by subject matter or because the composer, the arranger, the lyricist, or the publisher had a connection to the state.

Most of the pieces were composed in the late 19th and early 20th century. The database allows searches by genre, composer, and subject, among other searching categories.

Institutions cooperating in the project, dubbed IN Harmony, are the Indiana Historical Society, the Indiana State Library, the Indiana State Museum, and Indiana University’s Lilly Library. It was led by IU’s Digital Library Program. —Maria José Viñas
