In Tornado's Wake, Union U. Seeks Trailers for Classes, Homes for Students
Administrators at Union University, in Jackson, Tenn., are scrambling to find housing for students displaced by the tornado that ripped through the campus on Tuesday night. Union’s president, David S. Dockery, said in a message posted on the university’s emergency blog that 40 percent of its dormitories had been destroyed and another 40 percent damaged.
The university, which plans to reopen on February 18, hopes that local families will take in students, but it is also looking for short-term apartment or hotel leases, reports The Jackson Sun.
Mr. Dockery told the newspaper that the university is considering bringing trailers to the campus to serve as temporary classrooms. He also said it was not yet clear whether winds had damaged the rooftop ventilating system in the year-old science building.
