Fracas Over a Forged E-Mail Message
Officials at Ohio University at Athens are investigating the origins of a forged e-mail message that tried to derail an administrator’s candidacy for the position of provost. While several candidates were still being considered for the office, members of the university’s search committee received a message, purportedly from the chair of the Faculty Senate, that sharply criticized one applicant’s qualifications. But the Senate chair denied sending the e-mail message, and the university’s legal-affairs staff is now trying to determine who wrote it.
The message didn’t affect the search committee’s decision: Kathy Krendl, the candidate named in the e-mail message, was chosen for the job anyway. (The Athens News)
