Finessing Fire Walls

Computer scientists at the University of Toronto are set to release software that could help Web users circumvent fire walls set up by restrictive governments. The program, called Psiphon, lets users break down Internet-blocking devices without leaving clues about their identities.

If a Chinese Web surfer wanted information on the Tibetan independence movement, for example, he could send an encrypted request for that information to a computer located in another country. That machine would then find the data and return it -- again in encrypted form. (The Globe and Mail)
