Finding a Perfect Match
College students don’t seem to mind using online dating sites, so why not send them to the Web to find compatible roommates? A new roommate-matching program, being beta-tested by a company called General Meters, could soon lead administrators to ask themselves that question.
Like Match.com and eHarmony, the service asks users to fill out personal profiles and then generates a list of other registrants with similar interests. The software could save housing officials a few headaches—if they’re willing to dispense with the notion that learning to live with different personalities is an important part of the freshman experience.
