Having a computer hacked is never fun for a campus technology official, but it’s especially stressful when the security breach could hit the college in the pocketbook.

At the University of Notre Dame, a digital break-in has exposed the personal and financial information of an undisclosed number of donors. To assuage the fears of donors, the university has hired two computer-forensics companies to investigate the attack. But some donors have already complained publicly about the security meltdown.
