Emory U. Opens First of Several Green Residence Halls
Emory University has opened a green residence hall (left), the first of several now under way.
Turman Hall will feature bamboo flooring, toilets and shower heads that conserve water, Energy Star appliances, and thermostats in each room for individual temperature control. The building’s total energy consumption will be displayed in the lobby, in the hope that Emory students will conserve more if they see their usage on display.
The university hopes the building will earn a silver rating from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, program. The other buildings under construction may reach gold ratings. (Emory U. photo)
