Coming Soon to Colorado State University: Layoffs and a Lawsuit
According to an article in The Coloradoan, next year’s proposed Colorado State University budget does not call for furloughs but would result in about 40 layoffs. Under the plan, which also ups tuition for resident undergraduates by 9 percent, …
CSU [will] take a $30 million budget cut, which will then be “backfilled” by federal stimulus money. CSU’s fiscal year starts July 1.
However, that’s not enough money to make up for the budget cuts CSU has already seen. The proposed new budget is 2 percent less than this year’s, [Interim Colorado State University President Tony] Frank said.
Frank said that while many other state workers will be furloughed, that will likely not apply to CSU’s employees. He said he’s not recommending furloughs because doing so would “simply delay the difficult choices” CSU needs to make.
Meanwhile, the Associated Press reports that two newspapers are suing CSU for allegedly violating open-meeting laws in selecting Joe Blake, a member of the CSU Board of Governors, as its next chancellor. Read more.
