Campus Podcasting Goes Mainstream
As more colleges hop on the podcasting bandwagon, Apple iTunes’ recently unveiled podcast archive is starting to look like a Princeton Review guidebook. Allegheny College, Wichita State University, the University of Chicago, and the University of California at Berkeley, among others, have already submitted podcasts to the service. Now the University of Florida joins their ranks. Campus officials are posting MP3’s on iTunes and on their own Web site. (Orlando Sentinel)
Florida’s podcasts, like those at many other institutions, feature campus news and excerpts from lectures. But some colleges have used the technology to publicize research and course projects. The pastor’s office at Westmont College, in California, has made podcasts of chapel sessions available to anyone who may have missed church—although not yet to people browsing on iTunes.
