Battle Over a Florida Biomass Plant

Neighborhood activists are fighting a Florida State University plan to build a plant that converts wood chips and other materials to gas and burns it to generate electricity. Neighbors fear that the plant, which would be constructed by a company leasing university land, could pose health risks because its technology is relatively untested. The university says the plant would be safe and would generate clean, sustainable energy. Read Katherine Mangan’s full report.
