An Academic Arcade
Ohio University's Game Research and Immersive Design Lab is lined with high-definition TV's, souped-up computers, and, of course, plenty of video games -- all the makings of a fantastic arcade.
In fact, the lab is an arcade. While it offers "training, education, and an opportunity to develop technical and creative skills through the use of interactive digital game technology," it also opens its doors to gamers, who can play titles like Counterstrike and Ghost Recon for $3 an hour. The game room, it appears, is fast becoming a useful recruiting tool for the university: At a recent promitional event, in which the lab charged gamers only $1 an hour, about 30 college and high-school students turned up.
