A Sufficient Sentence?

A Russian college student has been convicted of scheming to distribute computer viruses, but some security analysts say the sentence he received is much too forgiving.

The student, Sergey Kazachkov, was found guilty of running a pair of Web sites that let hackers download thousands of different viruses. Many such sites are hosted on Russian servers, and national authorities say they're trying to crack down on their "malware" problem. But Mr. Kazachkov's sentence -- a two-year suspended sentence with a one-year probation period -- hasn't encouraged officials at the security company Sophos, who say the punishment was a slap on the wrist.
