A Cautionary Tale

Now that Facebook has relaxed some of its barriers to entry, allowing more than just people associated with colleges to use the social-networking service, officials there are also learning how to deal with scary privacy issues. Online predators may start using the site. And that may make the service less appealing to students who used to see it as an exclusive club for people in college.

For example, a man was arrested for allegedly posing as a teenage girl on Facebook to lure a 15-year-old boy for sex, reports the Chicago Tribune. Facebook officials say they have safeguards in place to prevent such incidents. But with millions of people using their service, they say, some creeps will slip through the cracks. —Dan Carnevale
