Berkeley Tops College Rankings From 'Washington Monthly'

The University of California at Berkeley was the nation's No.1 university, and Amherst College was the top liberal-arts college, in The Washington Monthly's new guide, published today, which aims to counter U.S. News & World Report's college rankings. The Washington magazine ranks colleges based on measures of how much social mobility, research, and public service they foster.

National President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Is Sued Over Misuse of Funds

Members of the prominent black sorority are suing to oust their national president, Barbara McKinzie, because they say she misappropriated funds and commissioned a $900,000 wax figure of herself, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Penn State Is Top Party School in Princeton Review's College Ratings

Pennsylvania State University is the nation's "top party school" in this year's Princeton Review rankings, and Swarthmore College took the top spot in a new category: students' satisfaction with their financial-aid awards. The 2010 college guide also ranks colleges in more than 50 other categories, including best classroom experience (Pomona College), best career services (University of Florida), and most accessible professors (U.S. Military Academy).
