Campus Architecture Database: Mara Village Residential Complex

Fitchburg State College, Fitchburg, Mass.
Building Type: Residential
Construction Type: New
Cost: $15-million
Square Footage: 38,800
Architect: CBT Architects
Contractor: Colantonio Inc.
Opened: 2009
This project added a 130-bed residence hall and renovated existing buildings that house 300 additional students in the college's Mara Village complex, built in 1989. Like the existing buildings, the addition houses residents in eight-person suites, each with four double bedrooms, a living room, and a bathroom. A new grand stair connects multiple buildings to improve the sense of community within the complex, and a new landscape plan links it more closely to the rest of the campus.
