Alexander N. Cartwright, vice president for research and economic development at the University at Buffalo, will become provost and executive vice chancellor of the State University of New York next month.
Cathy Dove, vice president of Cornell Tech in New York City, will become president of Paul Smith’s College on September 1. She will be the college’s first female president and will succeed John W. Mills, who is retiring after 10 years at the helm.
Barbara J. Wilson, executive vice provost for faculty and academic affairs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has been named dean of the university’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She succeeds Ruth V. Watkins, who left last year to become senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Utah. Brian H. Ross, a professor of psychology, has served as interim dean.
Kim LaScola Needy, who led the department of industrial engineering in the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville’s College of Engineering for nearly six years, has been appointed dean of the university’s Graduate School and International Education. Ms. Needy, who is the first woman appointed to lead the school, had been serving as its interim director since April.
Joseph Lieberman, the former U.S. senator, will be a professor of public policy and public service at Yeshiva University for the 2014-15 academic year. He will teach an undergraduate course and give three public lectures.
