Continued Attacks on For-Profits

Episode 67: Congress was on recess in August, but Washington’s focus on for-profit colleges barely let up. A Senate Democratic leader held a field hearing to examine concerns lawmakers have about proprietary institutions, and the Education Department released more information about the effects of its controversial proposal to cut off federal aid to college programs with high student debt-to-income ratios and low loan-repayment rates. Kelly Field and Sara Hebel look back at the past few weeks and discuss what’s ahead as Congress returns.

Kelly Field, The Chronicle's chief Washington reporter, and Sara Hebel, our politics editor, spend a minute (or so) each week discussing the key higher-education debates and behind-the-scenes maneuvering taking place in the nation's capital. Look for new episodes every Tuesday.
