Zimbabwean Student Killed in Protests
An undergraduate at the University of Zimbabwe was killed last month during student protests of government delays in paying grants. Students charge that he was beaten to death by police forces.
Charles Mugaviri, acting dean of students and a Methodist minister at the university, said students had witnessed the beating of Batanai Hadzizi. Police officials said he had been trampled by students fleeing tear gas, but Mr. Mugaviri said there had been no stampede.
