Your Best Hire May Be Your Former Student
Last year, the dean of the College of Education at San Diego State University, where I am a professor, requested that search committees in the college temporarily avoid hiring new faculty members who had done at least part of their doctoral work at San Diego State. That temporary freeze was to remain in place until the college's Policy Council could provide guidance regarding the value of hiring faculty members who had studied at SDSU.
