You Can't Put a Rule Around Her Heart

Girl meets boy. Let’s call them Jennifer Gossett and Shane Sandridge. Jennifer, 38, is a criminology professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Shane, 34, is a doctoral student she supervises.

You think you know where this is going, and you’re mostly right.

Mr. Sandridge sued Ms. Gossett and the university in federal court this week, asserting that the professor sabotaged his doctoral thesis when he spurned her sexual advances, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Neither the Tribune-Review nor the Associated Press could reach Ms. Gossett for comment.

But Ms. Gossett should know what they’re calling about. She has published several articles on faculty-student relationships, including “You Can’t Put a Rule Around People’s Hearts” and “Love or the Lecherous Professor.” —Elyse Ashburn
