Yale Will Upgrade Its African-American-Studies Program to a Department
Yale University plans to upgrade its African-American-studies program to a department -- a move that will allow it to hire its own faculty members.
The February announcement came just a few weeks after Hazel V. Carby, the head of the program, resigned from her post, questioning the university's commitment to black studies.
Ms. Carby was angry about public remarks made by Yale's president, Richard C. Levin, in which he praised the black-studies
