Wisconsin Student Wins Local Election With 7 Votes

A student at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point won election on Tuesday as a member of the Portage County Board of Supervisors with a grand total of seven votes, according to the Web site of WAOW, a local television station. The student, Eric Folkman, cruised to victory on the strength of write-in votes that he and some friends cast as a joke. But now he’s taking the electorate’s verdict seriously and plans to serve. All that stands in his path is a recount demanded by a candidate he beat by two votes.
