Wisconsin Audit Finds Felons on the Job at Technical Colleges

A total of 15 felons work at eight institutions in the Wisconsin Technical College System, according to an audit released today and described in an Associated Press report. The audit was conducted after the University of Wisconsin System was criticized for continuing to employ professors convicted of sex-related felonies because they had various job protections (The Chronicle, November 25, 2005).

The new audit found that not all colleges had policies on the issue of employing people with serious crimes on their records. It was unclear if the felons, who were not named in the audit, held positions in which they had regular interaction with students, or if their convictions raised doubts about their suitability to hold certain jobs.
