Wind Turbines: Not Always a Breeze for Colleges
Wind power seems so simple: As gusts blow across the land, they turn huge blades attached to sky-high turbines, which can generate enough energy to power hundreds of homes — or half the energy needs of a small college. The energy is clean, and the wind is free. What could be easier?
Alas, it's not always that straightforward. Wind turbines are massive machines, requiring expert maintenance. When they break, fixing them sometimes requires effort to match their size.
