If they would just fly in David Horowitz and Dinesh D’Souza, they could stage an awesome tag-team wrestling match …
The two academics that American conservatives most love to hate are scheduled to appear together next month at the University of Colorado at Boulder. According to an article in today’s Colorado Daily, William Ayers will appear on the campus with — and voice support for — Ward Churchill on the night of March 5, just days before Mr. Churchill’s lawsuit challenging his dismissal by the university goes to trial.
The event, “Forbidden Education and the Rise of Neo-McCarthyism,” is being sponsored by three University of Colorado student groups: Students for True Academic Freedom, the 180 Degree Shift at the 11th Hour, and the campus chapter of the Student Environmental Action Coalition.
Mr. Ayers, an education professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a former member of the radical 1960s group the Weather Underground, will be the headliner. Also scheduled to speak is the political activist and author Derrick Jensen.
Mr. Churchill — who was fired by the university for alleged research misconduct in 2007, nearly six years after he gained notoriety by comparing some victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to Nazis — is scheduled to take part in a question-and-answer session. Promotional materials for the event, to be held in the Glenn Miller Ballroom at the University Memorial Center, say the speakers “will unveil the mask of liberal academia and link Churchill’s fight with other scholars who have been attacked for their strong beliefs.” —Peter Schmidt
