Why a Union for RA's Makes No Sense
Undergraduate students who serve as resident assistants at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst recently voted to bargain collectively and become the first union of dormitory RA's anywhere. When colleagues ask why I have opposed the move, my first thought is that it simply doesn't make sense. In fact, this unionization effort is deeply troubling for several reasons.
Our campus is heavily unionized. Our faculty members and librarians are represented by a union, as are our police
