Why I Serve
The Supreme Court's recent decision that colleges receiving federal funds must provide access to military recruiters can be considered a minor victory for the principle that no class of adults should be exempt from the government's efforts to persuade Americans to share in a common burden. But this win for principle will remain a win in principle only, unless something fundamental changes in the attitudes of privileged young people toward military service.
