Why I Hate Chekhov
I never thought that I would hate Chekhov. After all, I enjoyed a Russian film of his play Uncle Vanya that I saw 30 years ago. And one of my favorite authors in college was Dostoevsky. So dark Russian literature was not foreboding to me.
