Why Do Film Scholars Ignore Movie Violence?
As one of this summer's movie superheroes -- Lara Croft in Tomb Raider -- Angelina Jolie pummels, kicks, outguns, and otherwise stomps and thrashes hordes of deserving bad guys. Amid the rubble of exploding buildings, John Travolta, in Swordfish, sprays lethal firepower from automatic weaponry. Add Jet Li whupping scores of corrupt French cops in Kiss of the Dragon, and across the nation, it's time for our annual summer dose of movie violence.
