White House Warns Agencies Against Pork

The Bush administration is taking a hard line against colleges and anyone else who lobbies federal agencies to provide money in 2007 for projects financed last year by Congressional earmarks. The White House says would-be recipients must compete for the funds in the normal fashion.

Congress stripped billions of dollars of earmarked projects from a spending bill (HJ Res. 20) for the remainder of the 2007 fiscal year. Congress's new Democratic leaders had proposed the ban on earmarks
