Where Art Imitates Wildlife
Tim Gunther is sketching a squid. The mollusk emerging in pencil on tracing paper has been caught in the act of depositing two tall, cylindrical egg cases into the sand at the bottom of the image. Overlapping in a squid embrace behind the mother-to-be are two more of the tentacled sea creatures. To the right, many more egg cases stand erect in a forest of squid reproduction. In the background, dozens of squid swim horizontally, their bulbous eyes peering out at the viewer.
