When Information Is Free, What Will It Be Worth?
To the Editor:
In Hot Type (The Chronicle, September 10), Lila Guterman quotes me as saying that if journal articles become freely available through PubMed Central, "nobody's going to purchase a subscription." While this is an accurate quote, the conclusion that Ms. Guterman draws from this -- and tacitly attributes to me -- represents neither the thrust of my argument nor my subsequent comments.
