When Grades Are Excellent, Do We Have Excellent Students, Teachers, or Neither?

I cannot agree more with Harvey C. Mansfield's assessment of grade inflation, particularly at elite American universities ("Grade Inflation: It's Time to Face the Facts," The Review, April 6). I've seen it in action, and it's profoundly dispiriting.
