Intransigence has been getting a bad name recently. We bemoan filibusters, gridlock, unwavering talk-show hosts, the failure of peace talks in … you name the region. Blue staters (fair disclosure: like me) bemoan the stubbornness of red staters like Rand Paul or Ted Cruz. But conservatives are not alone in their "inflexibility," and liberals who criticize their opponents as "stubborn" forestall more serious thinking about substance.
