When 'Bad' Voices Are Perfect

I read with great interest the article "The Discreet Charm of the Bad Voice," by Kevin J.H. Dettmar (The Chronicle Review, September 4). I've rarely heard this topic tackled before; and, as a longtime rocker whose interest in music precedes my career in academe, I've read a lot on the topic.
