When Archaeological Evidence and Written Records Disagree

Ze'ev Herzog has summarized in an accessible way the results of historical and biblical research over the past decade or so, which is now having an impact on archaeological research ("Archaeology vs. the Bible," January 21). He is not being iconoclastic. What he is saying is based on quite well-founded historical and archaeological work done by him and his colleagues in Tel Aviv, as well as by historians and biblical scholars in Heidelberg,
