What We Should Study About Child Care
To the Editor:
Nora S. Newcombe's essay on the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development's Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development is not the first attempt by a social-science commissar to define the correct and incorrect questions to be asked with regard to child care in America ("The Truth of the Mommy Wars," The Chronicle Review, October 19). But like earlier critics of the study, Professor Newcombe all too conveniently disregards the history of the work,
