What Should Journalism Students Learn About Their Future Profession?

Lee C. Bollinger raises some worthy issues about the role of communications in society ("Editing the Mission," August 9). As someone who has faced this issue as a journalism student, a journalist, and a college professor and scholar, I have followed with interest the responses in The Chronicle's online Colloquy to his plans. But some of the responses are clearly not very well informed.
