What Scientists Should and Should Not Discuss With the Public
To the Editor:
I agree with Alan I. Leshner's overall recommendation that scientists should engage in more dialogue with members of the general public ("Science and Public Engagement," The Chronicle Review, October 13). However, I believe that it is a false compromise to assert that scientists must "disclaim any ability to comment" on morality or religion in regard to issues such as evolution or stem-cell research.
