West Virginia College Levies a Fee on Athletes Who Play Intercollegiate Sports

"Pay for play" is supposed to go in the other direction.

To partially offset cuts in its athletics budget, Glenville State College will charge its athletes $100 for each intercollegiate team they play on, the West Virginia institution announced last month.

Officials of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics said the college is the first to charge such a fee.
