Walden on the Blue Ridge

In May I taught a new course in a new term at our college: Students are now required to take two "experiential" or E-term classes before graduation. Like service learning, the E-term is supposed to get students out of the classroom for three weeks to engage in some "real life" education. Other classes visited Civil War battlefields (we have a few in Virginia), worked on forensic medicine at the "Body Farm" in Tennessee, and even studied cultural perceptions with Islamic students in Bradford,
