Volcanic Eruptions Tied to Mass Extinction
An international team of scientists has concluded that hundreds of basalt outcroppings that ring the Atlantic Ocean are the remnants of massive volcanic eruptions 200 million years ago, which may have led to an extinction of life at the end of the Triassic period.
The scientists, who published their findings in the April 23 issue of Science, contended in their paper that the basalt dikes, sills, and lava
